The Unexpected

“I have been young, and now am old; Yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭37:25‬ ‭KJV‬‬

So I’ve been having a hard time lately with getting a ride with to go to church. It’s either people are making excuses or completely ignore my messages. I said “Lord I can’t afford to miss another Sunday, I’ve been faithful on the phone service line but I rather be giving You praise in the church where I’m not restricted to give you praise and worship.”

My kids and I got up, making waffles preparing ourselves for church. It has been the toughest with our living situation and all I can do is keep our minds focused on God. We keep praying for God to make a way and it feels like God is delaying the answer to that prayer for His own reasonings and timing, that can be unbearable for our poor human hearts. But we don’t lose hope, we keep trusting God.

We’d managed to gather a couple of dollars to get on the bus and enough for my kids to put in at the offering baskets. I’d already had budgeted out my 10% to God from my bank account saved to give to God. Well, we finally left the house, headed to the bus stop, a couple blocks ahead. The app said it was coming in 2 more minutes. I was telling the kids to walk as fast as they could, finally toting and running with my 3 year old on my hip as my 7 year old safely crossed streets to stop the bus.

My son ran up ahead, leaving us in distance. I panted heavily from the run and the weight of my growing daughter to come around the corner to see that my son was successful! Hallelujah! The gentleman next to him laughed saying he was questioning where this boy’s mother was and held the bus for us. I thanked him, motioning for our bus fare when the bus driver said to “have a seat”.

I didn’t catch it at first so I told the kids to sit down since I know the driver had to take off. I was about to put the first dollar in and the driver said “don’t worry about it, have a seat.” I thanked her then began thanking God in my seat, tears welling up in my eyes for the favor we had received. But it didn’t stop there!

I decided to grab the kids a snack since this wasn’t our usual church service time and I know we already missed lunch. We got in line with their popcorns and twisted lemonades then the woman in front of us who didn’t even have much things to check out told us to go in front of her. I thanked her than thanked God.

The store is right in front of our church so it’s not much of a walk but we were having service at our neighboring church since our church was getting work done. But we didn’t mind the extra walk; we were so filled with the Spirit of God that my 3 year old bust out with “God we made it! We made it to Church God! Thank You God!” I’m in tears with my kids calling out praises as we head for the church doors.

Service started and during the service as I was getting blessed with the word of God, the children were getting blessed with all types of candy. Not only that, someone gave them each $2 bills each. The favor that was on my family that day was endless. Service was over, thankful for the victorious message I received. I had people coming up to me hugging it out with me that never hugged me before at our church.

Sister Cookie shockingly kept a huge bag of clothes for me and my daughter that she blessed us with. My daughter’s dad picked us up with no fuss and didn’t even ask for gas money like he’d normally do. It was truly a blessed Sunday.

The following day, I received an email that I was officially getting paid for people to listen to my podcast, Dwell on This. Man even my followers grew on all over my social media accounts drastically, I’m like “Lord what’s up?” The next day, I got a check in the mail unexpectedly from a referral I did for someone to help them save money as they build their credit! Like this was blowing my mind.

That Wednesday was peaceful and silent. I got to enjoy time with my son and spend quality time on a school day with him. Thursday came and it was like the enemy was betting God on my family and my life. Sadly, my daughter’s father was attempting to persuade me to do some things that my new walk in Christ was not having and neither was I. I started speaking life saying that the enemy isn’t going to distract me and that God had my back no matter what; keeping me pure and in righteousness.

I retrieved my son from his bus stop and we were singing that “4Town” song from the Disney movie “Turning Red”, celebrating the day he just had since he’d finished up school testing. As we were crossing the street, a white truck sped dangerously in front a red car. Me, being the careful parent is sensing whether or not she needs to push her son out of the way, because that red car would’ve t-boned that truck how fast he was going. However, as I’m trying to pay attention to that danger, I have no idea what possessed my son to walk out; the red car is blaring his horn as I was waiting for us to safely cross, all awhile my son nearly got hit my the flying red car.

I was in shock. My first response was automatically asking “what happened? Why today you didn’t listen to my instructions while in danger?” I was hurt but I said I’m going to thank God anyways that I wasn’t planning my son’s funeral that Saturday. Friday came around and we got much needed rest. But, I woke up to see someone purchased my merch, after I was praying telling God I was going to give up, settle for less but GOD! Hallelujah!Saturday, we played and got invited to a birthday party last minute; enjoying ourselves with old friends.

Sunday came and we were entirely too blessed at church. My relationship with church members has grown with the sweetest people. I got offered a job to be a church groups publicist. And I’m like “God, I don’t even know where to start!! This ain’t my background.” Lol well, y’all pray for me because I don’t know where God is trying to take me. Can’t wait to check in with y’all how great God has been to us again. Though He’s been good to us, He is also good to you. Take time to thank God today. Amen.
